Dear Drama Club Member,

Congratulations on taking the first step towards being part of a very exciting opportunity at LMS! Each year our school puts on a production in which students are involved in every step of the process. You may want to be on stage, in a big or a small role. You may want to be behind the scenes, working as part of a stage crew, running lights, or helping with props. Each student is important to this production! Last year, about 60 students were involved in some aspect of the yearly production. We hope that just as many, if not more, will make a commitment to participate this year. Please read over all the information in this packet carefully and follow all the directions. Everything you need to know about being in the play is included here.

The Play: This year, we will be putting on the play, We the People. This play was written by Pat Cook and is published by Pioneer Drama Services.

The Commitment: Deciding to be a part of the play is a BIG commitment! Just as if you were on a sports team, you have to be willing to give 100% effort everyday in order to make our show a successful one. Attendance is taken every rehearsal; you must attend each scheduled rehearsal. Missing rehearsal not only affects the one missing it, but the others who are present and trying to rehearse with missing cast members.

The Rehearsal Schedule: A rehearsal schedule will be handed out to the drama members. Most rehearsals will be held after school on Thursdays, but later in the year, additional times may be necessary. Rehearsal ends at 3:30 when the late bus arrives. If you are waiting for a ride, please make sure your ride is there for 3:30. You are expected to be at all rehearsals when you are scheduled to be there. Rehearsals are taken very seriously. Part of being in the play means that sometimes it might seem like you spend a lot of time waiting for your time in the spotlight. It is expected that students will come to rehearsal with homework to do or a book to read while they wait for their time to rehearse. Please bring a snack and/or a drink for rehearsal because many students get hungry and thirsty, and the drink machines in the cafeteria are not always working. There are no snack machines! Rehearsals should not be thought of as a time to socialize with friends or fool around. Drama advisors are often very busy with the part being rehearsed. Therefore we expect students to behave appropriately. Behavior problems will result in removal from Drama Club.

The Application and Tryouts: Attached you will find an application for participation in the play and a schedule of events through tryouts. There are two things you need to do to ensure that you can participate in the play.
1) Fill out the application. (Don’t forget to have your parents/guardians sign it, as it is a commitment for them as well!)
2) Sign up on the schedule for a tryout time.

Each student who completes these steps is guaranteed to have a part in the production!

The Stage Crew: The stage crew or backstage will meet regularly, like all members of Drama Club. Please refer to schedule.

The Fun: We are sure that it sounds like being in the play is a lot of work and no fun. Only half of that is true! Being involved in Drama Club is a lot of work, but it is also very rewarding and fun!

We look forward to working with all of you. Please see either of us with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Ms. Jody Corbett
Mrs. Sheryl Hartling
