This school year 2007- 2008 the Family and Consumer Science program will service the sixth and seventh grade students. We will be meeting for a trimester.

My objective is to make students more aware of healthy lifestyles and learn independent living skills.
Grading in this discipline is based on performance in labs, completing a project, as well as tests, quizzes, homework, group work and cooperation.

Course Discription

7th

In sixth grade the students will spend half of our trimester working with textiles, hand stitching techniques and learning to use a sewing machine. We will be constructing a draw string bag and decorating the outside. The second half of our trimester will be spent concentrating on nutrition and food preparation. We will learn safe and quick procedures to make snacks and breakfast meals. In seventh grade we will focus on nutrition and healthy eating patterns. The class prepares foods from each of the food groups. They learn to bake, fry, broil, measure and mix. We make breakfast, snacks and a one pot meal which gets prepared at home for review by parents and siblings.
