 Welcome to Griffin Memorial School!

Our school serves all Litchfield students in grades PreK through 4. We are committed to providing the best education possible to all students in our care. Toward that end, the district and community have supported a number of important changes and improvements at GMS over recent years.

We are very excited in 2018-2019 to be offering a full day Kindergarten program for the first time.  This was an important focus for the budget process in the last school year, and thanks to Litchfield voters, all Litchfield five-year-olds may attend our full day program starting this fall.  We believe this is a critical improvement in our school program, and will serve our students well.

In recent years, we have revamped our curriculum and adopted new instructional materials and programs that are better aligned with our instructional goals in reading, mathematics, science, social studies, and handwriting. Our curriculum documents are available for parent review at That site contains Curriculum Guides – summarizing what students learn at each grade level, and K-12 Approved Curriculum documents by subject area.

Our school has seen tremendous growth in the use of technology in the last four years, in keeping with the district goal of moving toward a 1:1 computing environment. We made significant infrastructure improvements, allowing our web-based applications to function well, and gained a fixed computer lab, a part-time computer instructor, mobile labs of Chromebooks and iPads for student use in the classroom, and interactive white boards in every classroom. Our teachers are learning how to use Google Classroom, in preparation for increased technology in years to come. Many attended the Google Summit at Campbell High School in the summer of 2017.

Many of our teachers and our administrators have Twitter accounts as a means of sharing updates and articles of interest with the community quickly and directly. You can follow me by finding me on Twitter: @sthompson_gms. We also send home or post online school and classroom newsletters. The Tiger Times is a school-wide quarterly newsletter which we post online. For past issues of the Tigers Times, see:

We encourage parent involvement in the school. Our Infinite Campus Parent Portal gives parents direct information about their child’s school performance – attendance and grades. You can also update demographic information at this site, in the event of a change of address or telephone number. Many parents volunteer at GMS, and we have applied this year for Blue Ribbon status to recognize our high level of volunteerism. If you would like to volunteer, please begin with the online process, and then contact either our assistant principal or me to make an appointment for volunteer training. Online resources are located at our district website: One ongoing volunteer opportunity, of course, is through our active PTO. There is a link to our PTO on the school website.

We look forward to another wonderful year at GMS, and to working with both parents and students to support student growth and achievement.
