Welcome to the Litchfield School District Department of Buildings & Grounds!

Our grounds department has experienced groundskeepers on its staff. Buildings & Grounds Supervisor, Matthew Bennett, who has returned to the town in which he was raised, oversees all grounds operations in the District. With the help of Groundskeeper, Jack Lesperance, the Grounds Department maintains the District's fields and grounds with the utmost care.

Playing fields experience year-long stress from Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Football, Track & Field, and other daily usage. To ensure the turf can handle constant pressure, a Nature Safe program will improve playing conditions by emphasizing overall soil and plant health. The turf's recovery process is enhanced by increasing nutrient availability, eliminating surge growth and reducing leaching. Nature Safe builds the biologicial aspect of the soil by increasing the natural soil microbes. These microbes improve rooting and aid in managing thatch and disease pressures, resulting in improved wear and stress tolerance. Nature Safe ensures exceptional product quality, consistent sizing and improved particle breakdown, which all meet rigorous standards.

Nature Safe builds root mass, increases turf density, builds turf stress tolerance, minimizes top growth, reduces thatch, low salt content, weeds are natually controlled when turf thickens, contains NO manure or seage sludge and MOST importantly is safe for children and pets.

Our Goals

First and foremost, our goal is to provide a safe environment for all who use our fields; not only at Campbell High School, but also at Litchfield Middle School and Griffin Memorial School.

We are also working hard at keeping the majority of repair work "in-house" to reduce the cost of labor as well as retail parts.
We are committed to serving the schools in the most proficient and cost effective manner possible.
