Going On In The Third Grade...
Currently 3 teachers from
the third grade are
piloting a new math program called EnVision Math. It is a more
interactive way of teaching math that is geared more towards our state
standards. Right now we are learning about rounding and estimation. We
just finished up expanded, standard and written form and shortly we will
be starting multiplication. In social studies we have talked about
different types of Communities and some mapping skills. We just finished
a science unit on Rocks and Minerals and how the Earth changes. We use
Harcourt for our reading series. The students read a story each week and
take a comprehension quiz on what they have read. We cover a
different skill in grammar each week. Some of the skills we have done
this year are common and proper nouns, subjects and predicates, compound
sentences, compound subjects and predicates. We also do writing prompts.
Some of the bigger pieces that we have done this year have been a
personal narrative, a how to essay, and a descriptive piece of writing.
We
also will be taking a trip at the end of the year to The Museum of Science.
