PTO COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS


Box Tops for Education
This person(s) is responsible for gathering box tops from various products collected during the school year. This program enables the school to receive a cash back bonus to purchase the “extras” for the students. This job takes four to five hours a few times a year.
Campbell Soup Labels
This person(s) is responsible for gathering, sorting and mailing labels collected during the school year. This program enables the school to receive free school supplies. This job takes four to five hours a few times a year.
Enrichment Committee
This group of individuals’ purpose is to work with administration and teachers to organize enrichment programs for the students. These might include guest speakers, theatrical groups, musical talent, storytellers, etc. This committee evaluates programs and organizes presentations. This responsibility can vary with time obligations depending on what a member is able to offer.

School Store
This area can be divided into two areas. The first area is the person(s) who helps to maintain the merchandise, organize volunteers for the store, and maintain their own balance sheet. The second is to volunteer time to work in the store. The Store is open on Fridays during student recess. Duties for the time on Fridays would include setting up merchandise, overseeing sales and taking inventory.
Hospitality
This committee organizes the reception for such activities as the Welcome Back Breakfast and Open House in September, 4th Grade Recognition Day in the spring, and a few other school events throughout the year. This responsibility can vary in time based upon the number of people involved in the committee.
Newsletter
The Tiger Times editor(s) is responsible for gathering, publishing and printing the newsletter. This responsibility takes a few hours per month.
PTO Membership
This person(s) is responsible for recruiting new members (through distributing membership sign-up forms and advertising a membership drive), collection of dues, and maintenance of membership records. This position is primarily active during the months of September and October. It takes a couple of hours per week during that time to collect and total forms and dues.
Publicity
This person(s) is responsible for publicizing monthly PTO meetings and special events. The methods of advertising include, but are not limited to, flyers, newspaper articles and marquee messages.
Room Parent Coordinator
This person(s) is responsible for assigning room parents and coordinating phone calls when necessary with room parents. This position may take a few hours set up during the month of September, but then only as needed during the school year.
Volunteer Program
This group of individuals is responsible for organizing, scheduling and training volunteers in the school, as well as for special events. They also maintain volunteer records and handle the application of the Blue Ribbon Award each year.
Ways & Means
This committee organizes and runs various PTO fundraising activities throughout the school year. This provides the necessary funding for enrichment programs and school gifts.
