Litchfield School District News Article

September 7, 2020

Hello Parents, Guardians & CHS Community,

First I hope all have enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend.  Remember our students start school here at CHS on Wednesday.  If your child is a CTE student at Alvirne or Pinkerton, their schedules are different than ours.  I want to say that it was a very good first three days of “school” this past week with our Remote Learners in on Tuesday, 9th and 10th graders Wednesday, and 11th and 12th graders Thursday.   We have a staff with this great “can do” attitude and our new faculty are demonstrating that same enthusiasm alongside the veterans.  We are both anxious and excited about the possibilities this year as we bring about 87% of our students back into the building on Tuesday.  Keep in mind that athletics will begin this week.  Please consult with AD Josh Knight or his Assistant Jen Matthews if you have questions.  On one final note, please be patient with teachers as they are doing yeoman work with a new Student Information System and  managing in school students and remote learners in this strange COVID world.  If you have concerns, please reach out to teachers before advancing your concerns to others.  Please see the following list for whom to contact:  https://www.litchfieldsd.org/ParentContactChart1.aspx  Have a great week everyone!  Bill Lonergan, Principal

Appreciation:

  1. Thanks to Social Studies CF Nate Cooper for his staying late and coming in over the weekend to help organize the social studies book storage room

  2. Paraeducator Drew Gora has stepped up and is taking on an Advisory until we hire a new staff member.  Drew does a great job working with all our students..

  3. Speaking of paraeducators, Kelly Fraser is back welcoming students into the building these first few days, and his humor and positive energy always bring smiles to student and staff faces.

  4. Librarian Julie Green is back at it taking school photos for remote students as well as for staff.  She also has volunteered to assist us with coverage challenges early in the school year for study hall students.

  5. Thanks to Mike Perez and Jodi Callinan for our opening messages to students and staff.

  6. In any school, we always say in the building that the Administrative Assistants are those who really run the schools, and having Jenn Matthews, Michelle Vecchiarella, Terrie Taylor, Elana Ayer, and Sally Mastarlerz doing their good work, we count ourselves fortunate that we benefit from their contributions on a daily basis.

New Dress Code for Litchfield Schools:

The Litchfield School District has created a new dress code for students for this year.  For the new school year, a committee of students, parents and staff drafted this new dress code that better articulates expectations for student and staff appearance at school.  Please review this with your Litchfield student to ensure they are dress code compliant when attending school.

Dress Code Minimum Requirements:

1. Clothing must cover the area from one armpit across to the other armpit and extend low enough to fully cover private parts (including underwear, buttocks and genital area - see image).

2. Tops must have shoulder straps or sleeves. Rips, cut-outs or tears in clothing can’t be in the “coverage area” defined above.

3. Shoes must be worn at all times and should be safe for the school environment (pajamas, bedroom shoes or slippers shall not be worn, except for school activities approved by the principal).

4. Headgear including hats, hoods, and caps are permitted for religious, medical or other reasons by school administrators. CHS staff may choose to permit hats in their classroom.

5. Special courses or co-curricular activities may require specialized attire, such as

See the following link for the specifics of the dress code.  There is a clear diagram in this link simplifying these expectations.
