Litchfield School District News Article

April 6, 2020

Hello Parents, Guardians & CHS Community,

It is rather amazing that we have already completed 3 weeks of Remote Learning at CHS.  I am happy with the strides we have made in this transition and I anticipate continued progress as we regularly refine our skills.  On that note, I have recorded myself in order to reach out to the community to cover some of the topics on the Update. Here is the link:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kjHS65YLspPBmdjtpUzeU_gQSpw0C07-/view?usp=sharing The reason I recorded this is to share the experience of our staff in finding ways to communicate  bear with in this new environment. Please bear with me as I try to develop these presentation skills.  This recording does not cover all of the topics included on this update, is about 8 minutes long, and if you do not have time, feel free to skip this and read this edition.  Have a great week everyone!  Bill Lonergan, Principal

Appreciation:

  • We have heard from all corners of this community about the support being provided by CHS paraeducators.  They are doing a terrific job of reaching out to the students/teachers to facilitate our Remote Learning.  So to Kelly  F, Jill A, Jill S, Mike B, Sharon W, Alise M, Cari B, Ann F, Mary O,  Becky B, Drew G, Emily L, Linda S, and Cheri W, your work is greatly appreciated!

  • Our clubs/organization advisers are continuing to reach out to their organizations, to meet, and to continue their activity’s work in a remote environment.  Some of these are CHS staff, and others are those from the community. Their dedication is important in helping offer some non-academic, social opportunities to students.

Remote Ways to complete Community Service Hours:

1. VLACS has provided this resource to help students fulfill their community service requirement:  https://www.operationwarm.org/blog/25-volunteer-jobs-to-do-from-home/.

2. Participate in 7 Cups and https://vocalid.ai/voicebank/

3. Create art for local hospitals and nursing homes and send "Thinking of You" type cards to ill patients (this would seem especially appropriate now).

From the Health Office:  If you are looking support, our school nurse, Donna Boucher, has transitioned to CHS at a most unique and challenging time.  If you have concerns that she might be able to assist with regarding your children that can be addressed remotely, please feel free to reach out to her at [email protected].

From Food Services:

Any family that is experiencing financial insecurity during this time is welcome to apply for Free and Reduced Lunches.  These are available during lunch pickups on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11am-1pm. Please call in advance (546-0300) if you are coming just to pick up a F & R Lunch Form.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to Lauren Crowley, Director of Food Service, with any questions you may have.

We are offering meal service to any and all Litchfield School District Students on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 AM - 1 PM at the Campbell High School Main Entrance.  For more information, please contact Lauren Crowley, Director of Food Services at [email protected] or 603-546-0300 x3112

Stay safe and wash your hands!

Remote Learning Concerns:   We have had parents express concerns about how the Remote Learning is going for their children in various classes.  It is our strongest recommendation to reach out to teachers first for assistance, but if you need more assistance, touch base with the counselors.  You can also reach out to the Curriculum Facilitators or the Unified Arts Coordinator for assistance. If your child is still struggling, please let me know at [email protected].  Most of these circumstances are manageable through clear and direct conversations between those most in a position to assist.  We will be addressing these concerns at a faculty meeting this afternoon so staff can continue to collaborate and find ways to address these concerns.

Senior Class and student activities:   This is usually the time we begin planning for senior class activities.  We have a graduation committee meeting today, and we are going to continue to plan for these events, keeping in mind that there are many unknowns in this planning as we move forward.  We will definitely keep the community informed as we do. The senior survey will be LIVE on Naviance on Monday, May 4th. More information about the survey will be sent as the date gets closer. As far as clubs and organizations, advisors are still “meeting” with groups and continuing to offer these possibilities remotely.  Please encourage your students to continue to participate in those organizations.

Grading and moving forward:  We are going to finalize 3rd quarter grades next Monday, April 13.  That is a snapshot in time for eligibility purposes. If we do come back in time for athletics, this will be a concern for student athletes.  We are also working in the District to come up with a plan for the 4th quarter and what grading will look like for the end of the year. As we soon arrive at plans for grading that will be communicated at both the district and school level.

Advanced Placement Exams:  If your child is taking an AP course/s, her or his teacher should be communicating about the testing schedule.  That has been finalized by the College Board, and your child should have been informed as to the date/time of that testing.  For more information, have your child contact the CHS teacher or their school counselor for more information. https://apcoronavirusupdates.collegeboard.org/students

Athletics:  Currently all athletics are postponed until further guidance is received from the NHIAA.  It is against NHIAA rules to have teams conduct “captain’s practices. Please keep in mind that we are following CDC and NH guidelines for Social Distancing, and having athletes get together to practice is contrary to those, on campus or otherwise, not to mention risky in terms of the potential health consequences.   If groups are meeting on the CHS fields, they will be asked to leave. If you have questions regarding spring sports, please contact AD Knight ([email protected])  or his Assistant Jenn Mathews  ([email protected]).

If You or Your Child Needs Other Assistance:  If you have questions regarding any of the following, please contact the appropriate person through email.  There is also a Safety & Crisis list attached from our CHS counseling department.

Scholarships: For parents of seniors, if your child is looking to access SCHOLARSHIP applications, here is how they can do it and this is a perfect time to do so.  They can log onto NAVIANCE, click on COLLEGES, click on SCHOLARSHIPS & MONEY and then click on SCHOLARSHIP LIST. They can access all scholarships in this manner.  Mrs. V is busy keeping this list up to date.
