School Closure

Good morning,

Given the really challenging circumstances presently with respect to the COVID-19 virus, I want to impress on this community the hard work that is being done by CHS staff to move forward with Remote Learning.  Yesterday was a full day for our staff in preparing for this non-traditional pathway for students and staff. They all did a terrific job in preparing for this, and this includes teachers, special educators, paraeducators, librarian/media specialist, counselors, and other support staff.  There is an exceptionally positive attitude with our entire staff to move this forward in a way that makes the best of these difficulties. We anticipate challenges moving forward, but I also know that if you work with us, I believe we will continue to student learning in this rapidly changing world.

Please keep in mind, we are not allowing public access into the building, so it may be unfamiliar and less welcoming  if you seek to come into CHS, but we are trying to keep everyone healthy and safe.

Enclosed in this Blackboard is important information from across CHS, so please take some time to read this carefully.  We will be sending out regular communications through Blackboard, but we also do not want to overwhelm you with information.

Materials for students:  We did make time yesterday (Monday) for students and parents to come to CHS to pick up resources they might need to continue working on classwork.  If you were unable to come to CHS, we will be in the offices the remainder of the week during our normal hours 7:00- 3:30,, and we will be available to get those materials to you.  Please call the main office if possible to let us know when you are coming in (546-0300), and we will make preparations to get those things to you and your students. As stated above, you will likely be held in the vestibule and not allowed access into the building as we get those belongings to you.

From the Learning Commons & Julie Green:  As the school Library/Media Specialist, Julie will be available to help students not only find online resources but if there are questions on how to use any of the online tools or technology during the school closure. Please email her @ [email protected] and she will reply back to you to provide support.

From the School Counselors:  Counselors will be working remotely along with our teachers and other staff.  If your child or you have questions, we are strongly recommending you please reach out through emails.  If you have emergency challenges, please contact outside resources, and please keep the counselors informed as you would during normal school times/days.

Jodi Callinan- Counseling Director, Last Name Alpha E-K is currently away from the office (but healthy!), and when she returns on Monday, she will be available via email from 8:00am-3:00 pm.  She is checking emails intermittently while she is away.

Jeff Parsons- Last Name Alpha L-Z will be available Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-3:30 pm.  He will be checking emails regularly.

Carrie Juris- Last Name Alpha A-D will be online from 8am-1pm Monday through Thursday for students and parents and will be working through email.

Bill Hicks-Student Support Counselor (Bill’s Room) will be online from 9:00am-2:00 pm daily and again will be working through emails, but he has also set up a Google Classroom for his students for them to be able to contact him.

Jamie Faulhaber- Mental Health Clinician will be on line from 9:00am-2:00pm.

From the Teachers:  Teachers have made available to your children through their Google Classrooms or through email or other means their hours they will be available online daily.  This includes Special Education teachers and support staff. They are using Google Classroom as their primary resource, but they will also be using other on-line tools and applications that your children will be accessing.  Most of these are somewhat intuitive and students should have some familiarity with, but teachers will also be instructing them how to use these resources as well. If your child has concerns regarding specific challenges in classes, please reach out to the teachers first.  If you have continuing questions or concerns, please follow our Contact List to address those concerns to other appropriate CHS staff: http://filecabinet7.eschoolview.com/482E9617-A53B-4F91-B3A9-B184145F1BAD/CHSContact.pdf

From Cafeteria Services:  Food services will be providing lunches through the CHS Main Entrance.  They can be picked up as follows:

Tuesday, 3/17 from 11am-1pm

Wednesday 3/18 from 11am-1pm

Mondays and Wednesday after this week from 11am-1pm.

Meals will be charged to student accounts as appropriate.  Free lunches will continue to be free, reduced will continue at the reduced rate, and paid lunches will be at their normal $2.50 charge.  Menus are being prepared as the week’s progress. Eventually weekly menus will be put out to the public.

From Athletics:  AD Knight will be sending out information in a separate Blackboard message some informatoin regarding news from the NHIAA and spring athletics.

As mentioned previously, we will be communicating out through BB as we move forward, hopefully without inundating the CHS community with too many messages.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with your concerns, but keep in mind with these challenging circumstances, it may require some patience and close collaboration as we move forward.

Stay healthy,

Bill Lonergan, Principal

Mike Perez, Associate Principal

Jodi Callinan, Counseling Director

Josh Knight, Athletic Director
