Litchfield School District News Article

March 13, 2020

Hello Parents, Guardians & CHS Community,

Given the Superintendent’s email message from today, I would like to provide some information from the CHS perspective.  We also have some important news for you. Given the COVID-19 virus challenges here in the US and internationally, we here in the high school are all taking steps to protect students, ourselves and our families.  We are canceling all after school activities as aligned with the Superintendent’s message until further notice. This includes student events, other CHS parent organization events, as well as all community events scheduled at CHS until further notice.  We are also having students stay home on Monday to give teachers at CHS the time to prepare appropriate virtual/online activities to keep students on track in their classes. We hope you join us in this effort, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us here at CHS.   Bill Lonergan, Principal

From the Health Office

As you saw in the today's update from Superintendent Jette, we are monitoring the COVID- 19 (coronavirus) situation very closely and planning accordingly.   In order to do our due diligence, we want to communicate about best practices that we are taking in the Litchfield Schools. At present, as students are present during the day at school, we would like to provide you with our response and helpful information for your families.

On a daily basis, we will be checking the nh.gov website for updates on the coronavirus and will send updated information, as needed.  If you would like to follow the same guidelines, use this LINK. The National Associations of School Nurses and School Psychologists have prepared guidance for parents for talking to your children about this illness.  This resource can be found at: Talking to Children About COVID-19 (Coronavirus): A Parent Resource.

At Litchfield Schools, we pride ourselves on maintaining clean facilities.  On a routine basis, we sanitize frequently touched surfaces and encourage those who are sick to stay home and rest if they are showing symptoms of any illness.   We ask that all Litchfield community members pay attention to the following CDC guidelines (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) and make informed decisions based on your situation.

How can I protect myself and others?

There are steps you can take to reduce your risk of getting sick from viral respiratory infections, and help prevent transmitting infections to others, including:

  • Do not touch your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (sing "Happy Birthday" twice)

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands

  • Maintain social distance

  • Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces (especially those cell phones!)

  • Stay home from work or school if you have a fever or are not feeling well

  • If you travel out of NH or the USA, be informed of the threat level of where you traveled and follow all recommendations of the CDC

  • Consider bringing a water bottle from home

As a tight knit community that cares about each other, Litchfield depends on self regulation to prevent the spread of disease.  We take care of each other by making informed decisions and following best practices.

Sincerely,

Bill Lonergan
