Litchfield School District News Article

December 4, 2020

Good Evening, Parents, Guardians and CHS Community,

So this was a strange week and reflective of where we were from March through the end of the last school year with Remote Learning for all students.  I will say in walk-throughs of teacher classrooms this week I have seen a great deal of engagement by our staff with your children, and the staff/students are really working hard to succeed at RL 2.0.  Monday’s scheduled power outage on the north end of Litchfield is bringing us a little different schedule.  Please make sure you read the blurb below for what that will look like at CHS.  I would like to ask several requests of parents.  First, if your child will not be in their classes via Google Meet due to appointments, illness, or for other reasons, it is important that you call them in absent, even with them being in quarantine and with us being in Remote Learning.  We are really challenged in taking attendance, particularly if students are not showing for their A Block classes, but then show up for others.  Block A is when we take our daily school attendance and it is important that we get this right.  Also we would appreciate it if you reinforce the following with your children; we have reminded them they need to be present in their Google Classroom Meets the entire class with their teachers, unless the teacher assigns them independent work.  Students are expected to be present with their cameras on during class.  If there is a reason why they can't, please contact your child’s counselor to explain these circumstances.  Finally, we have asked students to be appropriate and respectful in their choice of location at home where they are participating, make sure they are dressing appropriately for school, behaving as they would in class, and not sharing classroom codes with other friends/students not in their classes.  Your assistance with these would be really helpful.    Next week, we have we have a virtual Coffee with The Administration, and the PTO, Athletic Boosters, and FOPA also have virtual meetings if anyone is interested in assisting those groups.  See those meeting links/dates/times below.  Have a great weekend everyone!   Bill Lonergan, Principal

Updates:

Monday’s Power Outage Change of Schedule:  Campbell High School - Power will not be out at CHS.  Teachers will arrive at school on time, and deliver remote instruction from 7:30 to 8:00.  At 8:00, Block A class will pause and teachers and staff will use “outage time” to complete the annual ALICE recertification training.  Once power is restored, classes will resume.  The following is the CHS schedule for the day:

Block A:  7:30-8:00 (Pause at 8:00 after 30min)

Staff Annual ALICE Training: 8:00-9:00 - Students Working Independently

Block A Continues: 9:04-9:48 (44min+30min = 74 min)

Block B: 9:52-11:06 (74 min)

11:10-11:40 Teacher & Student Lunch: 30 min

Block C: 11:44-12:59 (75 min)

Block D: 1:03-2:18 (75 min)

CHS Winter Concert:  The CHS Winter Choral Concert (originally scheduled for Dec 17) has been postponed to TUESDAY, DECEMBER 22!  It will begin at 7pm and be recorded/streamed just like the October concert.  We will send more information on that as we get closer.  Please understand, everything is VERY fluid!  We are doing our best to bring you our very talented students’ music.

COVID Update Regarding Masks:  We have been taking a look as a district at the rising COVID cases in NH and discussing the Governor’s recent mandate for wearing masks in public spaces.  Even though schools have been exempted, we believe it is important for students and staff to wear masks at all times in the buildings.  The exceptions will be while eating lunches or taking a mask break outside and are physically distant from one another.  Although we are currently remote, when we return to school, we do expect students and staff to follow this expectation.  We appreciate your support as we keep students and staff safe at CHS.

Quarantined Students:  If your child has been quarantined due to testing positive for COVID 19 or for your child being in “close contact” outside of CHS with someone who is positive, please make sure that you communicate this with the school as soon as possible.  Sometimes there is a lag from DHHS notifying us of these circumstances outside of school  The earlier we know this, the better for managing these.  In quarantine situations, it is also helpful if your child notifies teachers/counselors they will be in Remote Learning during their quarantine.

Our CHS Make a Difference Canned Food Drive Final Update:  The results are in, and the tallies are as follows:  GMS supplied 377 items, LMS supplied 846 items and CHS provided 1225 items for a districtwide total of 2448 items. Thanks to all of you for your support of the Litchfield Food Pantry.

College Rep Visits:  Most College Rep visits are done for 2020-21.  Some random ones may still occur, and we will notify students as that happens, but that’s all for now, folks!

Appreciation:

  • Reed Miller and Mark Syphers, from our grounds crew, have come into the building to cover during the days for our daytime custodian who has been out of the building.  Their commitment to keeping things running smoothly has been really helpful and a blessing.

  • Speaking of custodial, we have been fortunate to have Anthony Fauth join us during the day as well, and his commitment and work ethic has been noticed by many of our staff as he works hard to ensure the building in good working order.
