Litchfield School District News Article

September 17, 2021

Sept 17, 2021

Good Evening, Parents & Guardians, Students, CHS Staff and CHS Community,

We are heading into week 4 of the school year already., and it already seems to be rushing along.  Open House was a real success and without a specific number, we probably had 200 parents/guardians coming in to speak to teachers and staff.  Thank you all for that.  We hope the transition has gone well for your students who were remote last year and are coming in live.  Please reach out to counseling in any cases where your child may be struggling.  I want to make a strong request to please update your student forms.  In the past these have gone out in paper forms that students brought home the first day of school.  We are having difficulty contacting parents or distributing over-the-counter medications without these being complete or revised if your contact informatoin has changed.  Insturctions are below.  Homecoming is this week.  Please see the schedule below for events and activities.  We want to advise you of a bit of a challenge we are having.  Tik-Tok is revealing students vandalizing school facilities.  We have had several low-level events this year, and we need your help to prevent this.  We are addressing the classes about this.   We want students taking responsibiltiy to ensure our facilities are kept safe and intact, and we would appreciate parents talking to their children about it.  We appreciate any help to mitigate this.  While we are still experiencing staffing challenges, we believe we have the teaching ones solved, but we are short of custodial staff.  Please refer anyone interested to the district HR site.   Finally, we are meeting once a week as a District Admin team to address COVID challenges.  Please refer to the Superintendent’s message below for information on that.  Have a great weekend everyone!  Bill Lonergan, CHS Principal

From the Superintendent:

Good Evening,

We have simplified our weekly reporting around COVID-19.  The new spreadsheet will be posted to our website every week:  LINK

As you can see, both CHS and GMS currently have low impacts while LMS has a medium impact due to a cluster of cases and increased student absences.  Combined with substantial spread in both Litchfield and Hillsborough County, we are STRONGLY recommending masks be worn at CHS, and requiring masks at both GMS and LMS.

Be well, Mike

Superintendent of Schools

We are now officially back to our normal five day schedule:

Mon- Skinny Monday  (All Blocks) A, E, B, F, C, G, D, H

Tues- Day 1  Blocks A, B, C, & D

Wed- Day 2  Blocks E, F, G, & H

Thurs- Day 1  Blocks A, B, C, & D

Fri- Day 2  Blocks E, F, G, & H

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:

VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL PARENTS:  Student Forms:  We have opened our student forms for parents to sign off on electronically.  In past years, you would have filled these out on paper and returned them the first few days of school.  Now they are electronic, and these are the same forms and still require parent signatures.  Please do so before October 1.  Here is the link:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ew1Dck928Y-DXgYs1j1y2nZie6-pXQJ-/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=112925213459560212484&rtpof=true&sd=true

During this time, our on-line registration forms for students enrolling at CHS will be closed.  Please pass along to anyone you know of who is registering a new student that this needs to be done through the Registrar-Terrie Taylor in the Counseling Office.

Upcoming Events:

Recognition & Appreciation

  • To all of the teachers, counselors, admin assistants, and Mike, Val, Josh, great job with Open House.  I was so impressed with the positivity of the parents as they came through and were talking about their engagement with teachers in the classrooms, with the store being open, with the PTO being there.  What a nice way to get the year off to a good start with our community.  Thanks everyone!

  • Kudos to the Student Council for their assistance with Open House.  Students included Liv Pilcher, Jackie Gamache, Alex Kirby, Faith Avitabile, Emily West, Jocelyn Green, Josie Oberto, and Mia Kittredge,  and Shawn M are always crucial to making sure we do things correctly.  Also, thanks to Matt Grieco for making those end of Block announcements during the Open House.  Thanks to all of you!

  • Thanks to Manny and David Ross who have really stretched themselves thin this past week to stay on top of the cleaning here at CHS.  If anyone knows people interested in joining us in the custodial department, please refer them to the District HR website.  Getting them assistance and support is really important this year.  Thanks Manny and David!

  • Again, to all of the CF’s, UA Coordinator, Directors, and the other individual department contributors, thanks for your ongoing assistance related to the budget.  There are certainly some heavy lifts in terms of targeting how to conserve, but your contributions are valued.  Also to Stacie, going through this the first time, keep up the good work!

  • Terrie Taylor is a “treasure” in the counseling office.  Keep doing what you are doing.  We really appreciate all that you contribute!.

  • Dawn Parker has consistently been going above and beyond at the start of this year to advocate and support students across CHS.  Thank you, Dawn!

  • When we ask Bill H to cover the cafe, there is never a gripe or a complaint, but it is always, “Yeah, sure.  I’ve got it.”  Thanks Bill.

  • Our New Faculty had their first meeting this week, and Denise stayed until 4;00+ to make sure new teachers were comfortable with putting class assignments into PS.  We really appreciate that commitment Denise.
