Litchfield School District News Article

October 1, 2021

Oct. 1, 2021

Good Evening, Parents & Guardians, Students, CHS Staff and CHS Community,

This coming week will be a four day week with Friday off for students.  As a result we will start with Monday being a day 2 and then following with our alternating Day1-Day2 for Tuesday through Thursday.  Thank you to all who supported us this past weekend with the CHS Homecoming events including the PTO Clothing Drive and FoPA’s Mattress Sale.  As part of Homecoming 2021, we had about 300 students come to the dance on Saturday.  I am shaking my head as I write this.  One of the most important aspects of being back in school is normalcy, and with more activities available for students, we are seeing strong participation so far this year.   That  is great news.  Hopefully we can continue to provide these opportunities.   These activities upcoming include a Leadership trip for FBLA and a planned US History/American Lit  trip to Salem, MA.  For those that stopped by during the football game to check in with Mike Perez and Val Nelson, thanks for reaching out.  You will have another opportunity to meet with the admin this coming Wednesday in the CHS Learning Commons as we have a “Coffee with the Admin” at 7:00 am.  For those wishing to join virtually, here is a link: https://meet.google.com/ycm-duws-jcz.  We are looking for additional ways to reach out to families, and that will be the focus of this meeting.  Your recommendations are an important part of us in this commitment.  Don’t forget PSAT’s are coming up for grades 9-11 on October 13.  Remember that seniors will have an independent work day for College and Career Readiness or with performing Senior Project work.  Have a great weekend everyone!  Bill Lonergan, CHS Principal

From the Superintendent:

Good Evening,

The Litchfield School District launched the First View Bus Tracker Parent App at the beginning of September 2021.  Unfortunately, driver shortages delayed the uploading of certain information into the bus tracker system that allows the buses to be tracked along the routes.   As of 9/24/2021, we are working with First View to address this issue and hope to have the parent app working accurately soon.  First View has received parent user feedback and they are working to determine and correct any issues.  Additionally, First View has added a new feature to their app.  First View recommends updating the Parent App on your phones to ensure you have the most up to date version.

Thank you for your patience while we navigate through this issue.    Please check back periodically for updated information.

Be well, Mike

Superintendent of Schools

  • Kudos to Mr. McDonough and Student Council on their successful Homecoming Dance.

  • Special thanks to Ms Ray, Mr. Benoit, Mr Sica & Barb and Ms Singer for being awesome chaperones at the Student Council Dance, Ms. Nelson and Mr. Perez, for providing a safe and fun environment, and to Officer Donnely for making sure all went well.  And most important, thanks to our fabulous custodians supporting us with the cleanup.  The Campbell Stu Co did an awesome job with decorations, ticket sales, set up, clean up bringing snacks and water.  It was good to see our Campbell community come together to share their Campbell spirit.

  • Thanks to Julie G for helping check in students for the dance.  I have a feeling we would still be there if she was not there to provide student names to be recorded on the computer!!

  • Kudos to David Gingras, GSA Advisor for meeting his GSA students Friday afternoon at the Corn Maze at Elmwood Orchard.  Good job supporting the students, Dave!

  • Finally, thanks to art teacher, Denise Freeman, who had a college admissions director for Monserrat College of Art in Beverly MA come in to present to her students in the Learning Commons on Thursday.  He then came to her classroom to do some individual portfolio reviews for students.  Good job, Denise!
