Litchfield School District News Article

January 6, 2020

Hello Parents, Guardians & CHS Community,
Happy New Year everyone!  I hope 2020 has started off positively for you, your students, family, and friends.  Based on suggestions from parents, I have changed the format of our weekly update.  Hopefully, this changed format will make this easier to read/follow.  I do appreciate the feedback.  Have a great week everyone!
Bill Lonergan, Principal
  • Appreciation:  I want to express our sincere appreciation from the CHS Administration for the support prior to the holiday break.  We are so grateful to the various parent groups, individual families, teachers & staff, students and their organizations, and to the other community groups who have all been so generous to those in need in Litchfield. Whether it was for the CHS sunshine fund, our “Giving Trees,” collections for the food pantry, donations to those in the military, or support for other community events, this generosity is a true indicator of the character of Litchfield.  Amazing!
  • CHS Theatre Performance this weekend:  Get ready for another fantastic CHS performance this weekend.  "Much Ado About Mean Girls," will run this Friday, January 10th at 7:00pm and Saturday, January 11th at 2:00pm.  You will certainly be entertained!
  • ALICE Drills - The school district will be conducting an additional safety drill this month to help us prepare responses to a school threat.  Like the last drill, we will read a scenario over the intercom so staff can guide students through a response.  Once again, we will not use live actors in this drill and staff and students will have time to debrief their response following the drill.
  • Reminder about January 28:  Our schedule for the end of the first semester has been finalized and sent out to staff, parents & students.  Please keep in mind that January 28th, originally scheduled as a day off for students, is now one of our exam days.  This Teacher Workshop Day, a day off for students, is now scheduled for February 11, the NH Primary day.
  • Highlighted Events this Week:  The CHS Athletic Booster’s Club will be holding its monthly meeting tonight, Monday, Jan 6, at 7:00 pm in the CHS Learning Commons.
  • Employment Possibilities within the Litchfield School District:  The Litchfield School District continues to look for substitute teachers, para-educators, custodians and food service workers.  Check out the district HR site for info: https://sau27.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx.

MARINE SCIENCE program:
Sean McKenna, Marine Science Fellowship Coordinator at Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2020. This program is designed to give students the opportunity to engage in hands-on research experience as well as introducing students to careers in marine science. Students in this program will get the chance to meet and shadow professionals in the field, to learn about the different careers marine science has to offer and to design and perform hands-on experiments that will be presented at the end of this program. In the past, we have had students use their research experience and their knowledge of what they have learned to complete senior capstone projects and independent study projects.  Sean is happy to provide any necessary documentation for students to receive school credit or work-based learning credit. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Sean at [email protected] or call at  (603) 436-8043 x31.

Yearbooks:  Yearbooks are on sale at Jostens.com.  Create a Yearbook Ad for your students that they'll remember forever. Jostens.com will walk you through the steps. The deadline is February 14th.  Any yearbook questions email Julie Green at [email protected]

Current Freshmen & Sophomores:  CHS students have the opportunity during their sophomore year (early Feb) to apply for a 2-year CTE program at either Alvirne HS or Pinkerton Academy.  The programs run during student’s junior and senior years.  Pinkerton is having an open house that you are welcome to tour.  Alvirne HS will send out information about their open house after the holiday break.  Pinkerton Academy CTE Tours will be held on Thursday evening, January 23 at 5:00 or 6:30 p.m.  A confirmation email will be sent out a few days in advance of January 23 with details of where to meet along with a campus map.
