Litchfield School District News Article

February 3, 2020

Hello Parents, Guardians & CHS Community, Now that exams are done and report cards for the first semester are available to parents and students, it is good to have second semester steadily begin to move ahead.  Please remind your children that the last day to change courses is Tuesday, Feb 4. After that, schedules are locked in for second semester. This is very important to keep in mind.  Also, Feb. 11 is a teacher workshop day, so students will have the day off. Have a great week everyone! Bill Lonergan, Principal

  • Appreciation:
    • We really appreciate Counseling Director Jodi Callinan, Counseling Administrative Assistant, Michelle Vecchiarello, and our Infinite Campus guru, Andrea Stern from the IT department, for their hard work to ensure grades were complete and correct for Friday’s deadline so parents can access them in the parent portal.
    • This is National School Counseling Week, and Jodi, Jeff Parsons, Carrie Jurus, Michelle Vecchiarello, Bill Hicks, and Jamie Faulhaber all make important contributions to the wellness of your children, both in their academic pursuits and in keeping them well in their social-emotional circumstances also.  We really appreciate all of their contributions.
  • Upcoming Events:
    • Please let your sophomores know that a great opportunity on February 4 is for them to meet with representatives of Pinkerton and Alvirne’s CTE programs.  There are some great programs that can supplement their traditional academic courses. (See blurb below)
    • On February 5, we will have an extended advisory with two purposes.  Freshmen and sophomores will attend a course fair to learn more about CHS electives, and juniors and seniors will have a presentation on vaping from the NH Poison Control Center.
    • For parents, we have a Booster Club meeting Monday at 7pm in the CHS Learning Commons.
    • We really would appreciate support at the Deliberative Session for the School Budget on Saturday, February 8 at 10:00 in the Auditorium.  It would be great to have any members of the community speak to the Budget Committee and the Litchfield community about how to best support the schools.
  • Reminder about next Tuesday, February 11:  Feb 11 will be a Teacher Workshop Day, a day off for students, and the NH Primary Election will be held here at CHS.     Don’t forget to make plans to vote here at CHS!
  • Employment Possibilities: We are still seeking a Boys Lacrosse coach for the spring season.  If you know of anyone with experience coaching HS lacrosse and possibly interested, please have that person contact AD Knight at [email protected] or 546-0300 x3118.
  • Upcoming Athletic Events: Girls basketball will be home on Tuesday against St.T, and away on Thursday at Hopkinton.  Boys hoops are away Tuesday at St. T and home Friday against Hopkinton. Wrestling is home on Wednesday against White Mountain and away Saturday at Plymouth.  Students participating on other cooperative teams include gymnastics on Wednesday, swimming on Wednesday, and hockey on Wednesday and Saturday. For more information on locations/times, please contact the AD’s office at x3118 or check out the CHS Athletics schedule at https://campbellcougars.org/main/calendar/
  • Health Office Update: This is a reminder from the CHS Health Office that cold/flu season is still upon us.  Please do not send your child to school if they are showing signs of the flu including fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches and tiredness.  Washing hands regularly, especially after touching surfaces that may be contaminated will also help prevent its spread. We do want our students here healthy and ready to learn.  If you are looking for a good resource on flu season, check out this link from the CDC: http://cdc.gov/flu/prevent/actions-prevent-flu.htm

Course Selection portal for 20-21 is now open! Counselors will be in 9th and 10th grade English & Social Studies classes on Monday, Feb 10th in order to help students choose and enter classes. Please have discussions about available courses and review the portal with your student. Students can enter courses as well. The 20-21 Program of Studies is available on the CHS website on the lower right side under "Downloads."
