Good Evening, Parents & Guardians, Students, CHS Staff and CHS Community,

The arrival of fall is one of my favorite times of the year with the cooler temperatures and the changing leaves. We are fortunate to live in New England to experience this change.  Because this week is a long weekend with the holiday on Monday and PSAT’s Wednesday, this week’s schedule is changed.  See the information below.  We have experienced a tremendous interest in student involvement in school activities.  With a huge crowd at the Homecoming games two weeks ago, the 300 students at the dance, and the nearly total school involvement wearing class colors and participating in the Pep Rally on Thursday, those are the first signs, but also our club and co-curricular involvement is seeing a jump in numbers as well.  That is good news as we strive for more normalcy to school routines.  Please check out the information on Wednesday, as we will have an early release for grades 9-12 and 12th grade students will be expected to work on College & Career Readiness activities.  I hope you all enjoy the long weekend everyone!  Bill Lonergan, CHS Principal

From the Superintendent:

Good Evening,

The Litchfield School District launched the First View Bus Tracker Parent App at the beginning of September 2021.  Unfortunately, driver shortages delayed the uploading of certain information into the bus tracker system that allows the buses to be tracked along the routes.   As of 9/24/2021, we are working with First View to address this issue and hope to have the parent app working accurately soon.  First View has received parent user feedback and they are working to determine and correct any issues.  Additionally, First View has added a new feature to their app.  First View recommends updating the Parent App on your phones to ensure you have the most up to date version.

Thank you for your patience while we navigate through this issue.    Please check back periodically for updated information.

Be well, Mike

Superintendent of Schools

  • Nice job to the Student Council and Mr. McDonough with the Pep Rally on Thursday.  It was great seeing all the class colors throughout the building and then aligned by class out on the Varsity Field.  We appreciate the Class of 22 and Advisor Kim Barnett taking the lead and showing the way with their class and school spirit!

  • Mike Perez took on a lot this week, leading the faculty meeting while I was in a budget meeting Monday, assisting me with technology challenges in a classroom while I was a sub Tuesday, and leading the first pep rally of the year for Thursday afternoon.   Additionally, he took on leading the PD work Friday.  It was a busy week for him, so thanks Mike!

  • Special shout out to Science teacher, Kurt Virkaitis, for providing his room for PSAT Digital Proctor training and for helping with the technical difficulties! Thanks to the Digital Proctors for being patient and hanging out with Val after school to train!

  • Thanks to Patrick Keefe, Aimee Gaspar, Nicole St. Jean, Sabrina Noury, Noah Benoit, and Kim Barnett for taking the trek down to Parker Academy on Friday.  We appreciate your visiting there, and will value your feedback on your return.   To the rest of the professional staff, thanks for your work Friday on Competency Assessments and Rubrics, your counseling work, the Learning Commons websites, and your Special Education responsibilities to keep all of our work moving forward.

  • To Wendy Langelier from Special Education, great job presenting  and attending the newest fundraiser at CHS called Empty Bowls to help support student leadership and to provide support to local food pantries.  If you are interested in supporting this, please touch base with Wendy or Paula.  It’s a great concept!

  • Val Nelson and Jamie Faulhaber attended the school board meeting on Wednesday with Val  discussing Counseling’s mission and vision for 21-22 and Jamie informing the Board about student services and Mental Health challenges as we have begun the 21-22 school year.  Your energy and enthusiasm and love supporting CHS studens and families certainly was clear in your time with the Board.  Thank you!

  • Finally, the NHS selection process occurred this week, and thanks to new Advisor, Sabrina Noury, for efficiently and effectively coordinating the process.  And thanks to the Faculty Council for your commitment in selecting inductees for this year’s Honor Society.  We look forward to the Induction in mid-November.
