COVID-19 UPDATE

May 4, 2020 School Closure Update

Happy Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you!).  I was recently asked to shift my weekly update away from the weekend so everyone could enjoy a few additional hours of peace and relaxation.  From now on, I will schedule the update for Monday morning at 8:00.

Survey data continues to tell us that our remote learning plan is working:

Parent Survey Results- When it comes to the workload and expectations from teachers, 76.2% of our parents report that the workload is “about right”.  On the WILD question, 60.9% of the respondents “believe WILD is helping my student get caught up on assigned work and taking control of their own learning”, while another 21.2% are waiting to see how it all plays out.  We also learned that our parents saw an increase in the amount of direct instruction being delivered by the teacher over previous weeks of remote learning with 70.4% responding it is “about right”.

Student Survey Results- When it comes to the workload and expectations from teachers, 46.2% of our students report that the workload is “about right” while 52.1% says it is “too much”.  On the WILD question, 62.9% of the respondents “believe WILD is helping me get caught up on assigned work and taking control of my own learning”, while another 21.3% are waiting to see how it all plays out.  We also learned that our students saw an increase in the amount of direct instruction being delivered by the teacher over previous weeks of remote learning with 73.3% responding that it is “about right”.

Please remember that we continue to deliver school in a format that is new to all of us!  Parents are reminded to communicate any concerns with remote learning or grading directly to the teacher.  If unable to resolve the matter, please contact the school principal for assistance.  Principals are able to view lessons and do a “virtual walk-through” to help monitor any concerns.

Even under normal conditions, as the weather warms up and the list of outdoor activities expands, it is difficult to stay focused on school.  Trying to find a silver lining, at least our staff will not be spending time on dress code violations this spring!  After working 3 days of April break, we are scheduled to end school for students and staff on June 18th.  Our leaders are diligently working on details related to summative competency assessments and grading.

Continue to stick together, Litchfield!  We got this!!!
