Litchfield School District News Article

December 17, 2021

Good Evening, Parents & Guardians, Students, CHS Staff and CHS Community,

My normal communication follows this message.  Today was a really challenging day here at CHS.  With the very specific and violent threats coming from outside CHS that were quickly communicated through several of our students at the start of the school day, we chose to evacuate CHS and contact the Litchfield PD.  Given the nature and severity of those threats, we then moved to Talent Hall at Darrah Pond to ensure students and staff were safe.  If you read Supt. Jette’s email from earlier this afternoon, you are aware of what worked well, and where we encountered challenges.  The end result is that we successfully reunited all of our students safely with parents, and we ensured our staff were safely reentering CHS by approximately  noontime.  We then returned to CHS and safely provided an opportunity for students to return to CHS to gather their belongings between 1:30 and 2:30.  What I think is most important is to recognize that all of our staff, our students, our parents, the SAU, Police, Fire, School Board members, and other community members did an excellent job collaborating with one another to come to this positive outcome-all of our students and staff ended up efficiently and safely back with their families this afternoon. We also decided to cancel all after school activities, essentially two basketball games and other practices, and communicate that out to student-athletes.  We debriefed quickly with our CHS staff at Darrah Pond before returning to CHS, and we will be meeting again on Monday right after school to discuss any additional concerns.  We are meeting with our District-wide and community Emergency Operation Team to review and address concerns later on Monday afternoon.   I am mostly appreciative of the outstanding work done by our entire CHS staff (administration, professional staff, paraeducators, and office staff)  managing some very unfamiliar circumstances today, calmly, professionally, and with total concern for ensuring students were safely reunited with their families.

As for my normal Weekly Update note, we are now in the fast paced run to the Holiday Break.  The generosity of the Litchfield community came through with significant contributions for our Make-A-Difference  Food Drive across the three Litchfield schools with nearly 4,000 items donated.  Thanks for your help with this.  On December 10 we held a meeting for students interested in the St. Paul’s School Advanced Summer Program.  About 25 students expressed an interest in applying.  This week coming up is our Annual Holiday Celebration for the students and staff.  Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday is North Pole Day with juniors and seniors dressed in winter garb and freshmen and sophomores dressed in their summer attire, Wednesday is Blizzard Day with all dressed in white, and Thursday is Ugly Holiday Sweater Day.  We will also have a revised celebration for our Campbell community.  Next week is a short week and the daily schedule is posted below.  Finally, I’d like to welcome our new Bookkeeper and Administrative Assistant Anastasia Morgan to the CHS Main Office staff.  I hope you all have an opportunity to enjoy some time with family and friends!  Warmly,  Bill Lonergan, CHS Principal

If you are looking for updated COVID statistics for CHS, LMS, or GMS, please use the following link to that information.  Data across these first three months can be found on the right side of the page: https://www.litchfieldsd.org/CoronavirusInformation.aspx.   The tabs at the bottom of the worksheet allow you to look at the data for each school for that month.

Be well, Mike Jette, Superintendent of Schools

From Student Council:  Next week Campbell High School will be having our annual 4 Days of Holidays. There will be spirit days that include Monday (Cozy Up Day), Tuesday (North Pole vs. South Pole day), Wednesday (Blizzard Day), and Thursday (Ugly Sweater Day). We also sent out an email to everyone about submitting pictures of your child for a slideshow that will be shown during our Holiday Assembly.
