My Teaching Philosophy

So that you can have the full appreciation of what we will accomplish in the classroom this year, I would like you to know my philosophy of education.
  • I believe that children need to feel comfortable in school in order for optimal learning to take place. From day one, I will treat your child as an individual and do whatever is in my means to make your child feel comfortable in our classroom.
  • I believe children deserve respect and that a child's self-esteem should be nurtured tenderly.
  • I believe my job is to teach until a child learns, rather than punish until learning takes place.
  • I believe that if I am willing to say, "I'm sorry," when I make a mistake, I do not have to be afraid of making a mistake, and the students will learn the same.
  • I want all children to enjoy the learning process, and I want to help them to develop their own motivation for learning. I hope to do my best to encourage your child to succeed in his attempts to learn.
  • I believe modeling is the most powerful way to affect a child's learning. Please model the love of learning at home by reading to and in front of your child.
  • I believe that a sense of humor goes a long way in a classroom. Your child will know that he/she can always share something fun or humorous with the class at appropriate times, as I will do the same. Laughter is not only a learning tool, but it can help build self-esteem.
How can you help?
  • Check that HW is complete & initial agendas nightly
  • Read all notices, check email, check folders for corrected work
  • Help child with homework as needed (sign homework or leave a note in the agenda if your child had difficulty)
  • Read with your child or to your child. They are never too old to be read to!
  • Attend conferences in November and communicate as needed
  • Help your child study for tests
  • Help your child to study math facts
  • Help with at-home projects, focusing on time management
