Student Council

Student Council provides a leadership opportunity for 4th grade students at Griffin Memorial. The GMS Student Council members participate in a variety of activities to benefit the school as well as the larger community. Council members work with Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. Clinton-Jones to plan, organize and execute all projects. Some past projects include a can food drive, safety awareness campaign, new student welcome cards, and pet supply drive. Meetings normally take place during lunch and/or recess periods, one to two times per month.

During the first month of school, all fourth grade students are given an overview of the expectations for Student Council members and the opportunity to apply to be a student council representative with parent/guardian consent.  Two names are randomly chosen from each classes’ completed applications. Student Council responsibilities/expectations are reviewed with the selected students and they are asked to sign a contract which they are expected to follow in order to maintain their council position. Once this orientation process is complete, the newly formed Student Council begins their work and these students take on the important role of being a student leader at GMS.
